As you begin your studies, we recommend the purchase of a general study guide for the National Geographic Bee. This, along with the several other resources listed below will help you be successful in the National Geographic Geo Bee. Here are several clear ways to help you do well in the National Geographic Geo Bee.

  • Be knowledgeable of political boundaries and physical boundaries   That means you have to be aware of not only country names and the lines between forming their boundaries, but also be aware of how the physical environment also plays a role in setting boundaries. (study those maps)
  • Buy the National Geographic Family Reference Atlas and Review the CIA World Factbook (FREE) An atlas is invaluable tool that you need to have ready at all time to look up stuff and to study with.  The CIA world fact book is a great source of free information
  • Blank Maps.  Practice Filling in Blank Maps (World & USA Maps)
  • World History World History (for those entrants still in grades 4 and 5. This will be a unique challenge because much of the material will be new.)  The National Geographic Bee is not a world history test, but questions could be dependent on knowing world events from the past.
  • Have a strong understanding of American History.   It is important to know the the Geography of where major United States historical events took place.
  • World and National News: FREE! (these sites should be visited daily)  BBC World News  and the AP News
  • Watch Past Videos of the National Geo Bee: Several Bees from the past have been released on DVD to watch over and over again. 
  •  Games and Apps 
  • Create Your Own Questions: FREE!It is highly recommended that Geo Club Students work with other students and prepare challenging questions for one another to both answer and research. 
  • Do the question at the National Geographic  Geo BEE Website as they are posted 
  • Do the assigned work of you Geo Bee Teacher/Coach.  FREE! Your Geography Club teacher will likely give you weekly work in order to keep Geography on your mind. This work alone is only one component to prepare you for the final challenge,.  To be competitive, you need independent rigorous study.
  • Make your recreation time valuable. If you have a break from HW and Geography study you should exercise instead of watching TV or playing video games. In order to spend hours studying, you need to be in correct physical and mental shape.
